The Handmaid's Tale Filming Locations

I am #obsessed with the new Hulu series, The Handmaid's Tale and it's not just because the acting is brilliant (which it is) or that the story is incredible and eerily relevant (it totally is!), but I'm obsessed because the darn thing was filmed a short distance from my home!

I had no idea that many exterior shots for this show were filmed in Galt, Ontario (technically it's Cambridge but locals still refer to this charming area by it's original name). I was part way into the first episode when I noticed a familiar site, the path the handmaid's take on their journey home is the Mill Race park in Galt!

So I watched a few more episodes, grabbed my camera and then headed to Galt to check out a few of the filming locations. I previously posted this Guide to Galt and always encourage people to visit this charming small town that has become the home decor district of Southern Ontario (I made that up but feel free to use it because it totally fits!). Now you can not only get a great meal, shop for home furnishing while enjoying the beautiful architecture, you can also spot The Handmaid's Tale filming locations! Enjoy the below photos and I'll see you in Galt!

This is the beautiful Mill Race walkway along the Grand River. The Cambridge Mill restaurant is the large building in the background and gets rave reviews for its brunch menu!

Cambridge City Hall was filmed as the Court House. The court room scene was shot inside.

Galt Juice Company window used for the scene looking at the children's clothing company.

The scene of the protest. Many locals were hired as extras!

When the protest turns ugly, everyone runs across this bridge...

and into the Grand Cafe! I highly recommend their donuts!
