Lavender is one of my favourite scents. It's calming and warm like being wrapped up in a comfy blanket. Once I went to an Aveda salon in Bardstown, Kentucky to get my hair done (I could not deal with my own hair in the southern humidity) and as soon as you sat down they put a lavender scented hot towel around your neck and my hairdresser put a few drops of lavender oil in her cupped hands and put them in front of me to breathe in. I have to say, it was a lovely wait to start getting your hair done!

Last week I noticed lavender photos showing up in my Instagram feed. They were all images from France and I wondered if there was anything a little more local that I could visit. Turns out there is a fantastic lavender farm less than 30 minutes away from me in Ayr, Ontario!

Early one morning The Youngest, now armed with his driver's license, and I drove out to check out the farm. We met the friendly owner who explained some of their processes in creating products such as oils and soaps and he invited us to look around the blooming lavender. In fact, he encouraged taking of photos for sharing on social media (there is a fee for professional photographers). We left with some tips on caring for lavender in our home garden and a few products from the shop. I purchased a sachet of lavender that is currently hanging up in my master bedroom closet, a bar of hand crafted lavender soap and the most important purchase, a lavender spray to put on our pillows at night.

Since we got our puppy, Ivy a week ago, we really haven't slept much so I'm looking for any trick that can possibly help. I forget what it's like having a new puppy in the house, it's almost as bad as a newborn! I can't tell if it's the lavender spray or the total exhaustion of chasing a very energetic dog around lately, but as soon as our heads hit those pillows we are out like a light.

I couldn't visit a lavender farm without wearing a flowy dress and purple scarf to match! I bought this white Rachel Roy shirtdress last year (last seen in this post) on a total whim. I walked into Winners looking for nothing in particular and I spotted this dress on an end rack and fell right in love. I snatched it up right away especially because I quickly checked online and found the exact dress for sale at Saks Fifth Ave for twice the price! (It's currently sold out but you can enter your email address and get notified if they restock)

I've only worn the dress on it's own, changing up my purse for interest, but that all changed on this day. I remembered that somewhere deep in my closet there was a Calvin Klein light purple scarf that I bought to match my lilac coloured Hunter Boots. It's a simple touch but it really kicked up my look! It's a nice reminder to put all those scarves I keep buying to good use. I'm obsessed with buying bright coloured (and cheap!) square silk scarves and a white dress is the perfect backdrop to show them off.
