160th Queen's Plate

preppy couples outfit

A few weeks ago AMH and I dressed to the nines and headed to the 160th Queen's Plate!

It's a family tradition to pick coordinating outfits, walk the Hats & Horseshoes red carpet and do a little betting on the ponies (previous visits here & here)

It's always a lot of fun to crowd watch to see all the great outfits! I am always in awe of the fascinators and hats some ladies are able to find.

Would you believe that me, the ultimate planner who can spend months planning the perfect outfit, chose this one at the absolute last minute? It happened! I had planned on another dress but when AMH finally (after years of asking) found and wanted to wear a pair of pink Ralph Lauren pants, my plans when out the window and I found something that matched his outfit better. I went with a white Gal Meets Glam Collection dress from Nordstrom. It's the Blythe Scalloped Eyelet dress and while it appears to be sold out online, I would head to your nearest Nordstrom Rack to see if you can find it in store (that's how I got mine!)

My fascinator was another last minute buy off Amazon. I was struggling to find just the right shade of pink, to match my Sugarfix by Baublebar earrings, and then I spotted this floral one for around $10. Thanks to Amazon Prime I had it delivered just in time for the day.

The Blue Diamond Cocktail in the signature keepsake class. I have one for every year we've attended.

Food trucks were on hand to keep us full. AMH and I both love our mac & cheese and we were pretty excited to see an entire truck devoted to it.

Horses everywhere! Can't forget that with all this fun dressing up, eating and drinking, there are actual races going on!

New this year was getting a printed photo from the photographers on the red carpet. It's a lovely little keepsake of the day (thank goodness I brought my large wicker handbag to hold it!) and I am currently on the hunt for a frame for mine. They also upload all their photos to a Facebook page so you can keep a digital copy.

There were a number of concerts that took place in the evening, including the closer High Valley, a country duo who I just love! There are also VIP booths to book where you can lounge and eat and drink in a comfortable setting. If you get there early enough in the day it actually is quite smart to have access to the VIP areas to rest in between races and events.

In the interest of full transparency, AMH and I left the Queen's Plate earlier than we normally do. While we did enjoy getting dressed up and seeing all the vendors and sponsor booths, we just didn't have as much fun as we used to. It was our first time without the kids and well, I think this is an event you really need to attend as a group. It's a fun day of music and racing and I think it's meant to be shared with others. Our boys are growing up and we're trying to navigate the world of being empty nesters. There are so many things that we enjoying doing by ourselves but this really wasn't one of them. Next time, we're getting our friends in on the action and going to book ourselves into one of those VIP tents and I can guarantee we won't be leaving early!
