October Classics

October Classics

Here are the clothing items I'm deeming my October Classics this month.

Quick recap - Each month I'll share here what I have deemed to be the Monthly Classics and how I plan to style them. Then for the whole month I'll work them into my outfits that I share here on the blog and on Instagram @Celebratingthislife

It's a mix of clothing I am pulling out of storage each month and some new items I'm adding in. It helps me focus on cost per wear and gives you some outfit inspiration for the month ahead! I try to choose a few clothing items and accessories that I can mix and match for work and play.

Leopard Jumpsuit - All this year everyone has been wearing jumpsuits and while I normally steer very clear of any trends, this one peaked my interest. I was at the mall shopping for an outfit to wear to the Kacey Musgraves concert (it was amazing!) I spotted this leopard jumpsuit in the window at Banana Republic. I've always been a big believer in love at first sight and this was one of those times! I asked to try it on and in the back of my mind I thought it probably won't feel comfortable or I won't like it. Wrong. I feel right in love! I texted AMH a very badly lit changing room selfie and got the thumbs up. He's been pestering me to get a jumpsuit all summer.

I quickly scanned the online reviews and after reading 5 or so, I noticed a theme. They all seemed to be saying the same thing "I wasn't sure if this jumpsuit was for me, but my husband pushed me and he loves it" So ladies, the key to your man's heart is through a leopard jumpsuit 😂

I've already worn it to a concert with a black shawl, black wedges and a tan crossbody purse, to another concert with tan flats, a jean jacket and red crossbody purse, and even once to work for the day with tan flats and a tan blazer. I'm also looking forward to wearing it with a jean jacket again with my hair up and bright red earrings for a night out, with pumps an a navy blazer and even with white runners and a white sweater thrown on top.

Now a leopard jumpsuit might be a bit much, but I do encourage you to add a little leopard to your fall wardrobe. I think Michael Kors said it best when he said he considered leopard a neutral. It's especially true in fall. Think leopard flats with an all black outfit or jeans and a red sweater, or leopard pants with black and white stripes and orange shoes, a leopard scarf and cream sweater with jeans or navy pants with a navy checkered oxford and a leopard belt. Classic!

Chambray & Navy Vest - I'm just grouping these two together because even though I will wear them separately they more than likely be worn together. I'll wear them with jeans for a truly Canadian tuxedo outfit. I also like to layer this up to fend off the chill. I add a white cardigan or fisherman sweater on chilly days and wear my jacket over top on really cool days. But most of the time, I just like to wear this chambray and vest together because I love that I can move my arms freely. And it looks so great with white jeans and our next item...

Riding Boots - This weekend I brought out my brown riding boots that I bought last year and I can admit I was pretty excited to head out in the forest with Ivy for her first leaf peeping adventure of the year! They look cute and they're functional! Win-Win!

Silk scarves - I managed to find a small photo of the vintage Hermes silk square scarf that I recently received as a gift (it's The Keys Les Clefs scarf) It was such a thoughtful gift from my husband and I want to get as much use out of it as possible! This month I'll be wearing it to dress up outfits in the office and as a way to keep the chill out with my outerwear. Square silk scarves add a touch of class and elegance to any outfit, but they need not be expensive. I just love the selection at Anthropologie and this equestrian one from Simons is only $9.99 Canadian!

Boat & Tote - I had been wanting a small version of the classic boat & tote for some time but since I have one in medium, large and extra large, even I thought maybe I should leave it at that. Then I was gifted a small red open top boat & tote from the L.L.Bean team when I visited the new Oakville, Ontario store and I wonder why I held myself back! I am loving this smaller version to hold my keys, cell phone and purse for quick grocery runs and even to hold Ivy's snack and water dishes on longer weekend adventures. I'm sure I'll find a few more ways that I can use it this month!

Camel sweater - I bought this camel sweater (on major sale, btw!) on a whim and while I have yet to wear it, I am sure I'll be able to style this in October right through to spring. I have a work conference this week and plan on wearing this sweater with some black dress pants and flats  (I normally love dressing but conferences are long and tiring and I want to be more comfortable than anything else) I see myself wearing this more with jeans or leggings on the weekends. Camel is such a great neutral this time of year and I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a classic cable knit sweater. Maybe I'll have it in next months round up!

You'll be seeing these October Classics multiple times on the blog this month and I encourage you to use this list to create your own monthly classic wardrobe! Let me know in the comments what items you are looking to add this month!
