Summer Work Wardrobe

pink jeans

What to wear for work is a question we all face every Monday morning. Do I dress up? Dress down? Full on business attire or relaxed business casual? For many of us the company policy dictates a guideline but even within that, there are many ways to interpret it.

Red and White Stripe Summer Dress

Fashion blogging is sort of a funny thing at times. You photograph an outfit you like, upload your images and try to come up with some witty and insight commentary about what is going on in your world or around how you selected the outfit.

Tunic Time

navy and white

As much as I love dressing up and even planning outfits, my busy life doesn't really allow me much time to do either. I demand a lot out of my wardrobe, it must be colourful and it has to pull double duty. Every time I buy something new, I consider how many different outfits I can make out of the item, thereby coming up with a good cost-per-wear number. These white cropped jeans and navy blue tunic are something I get a lot of use out of.

Carefree Summer

Summer is the time to slow down, act a little more carefree and just enjoy the warm sunshine (especially for us Canadians and Northern States folks who have to suffer through terrible winters just to get these few months of bliss!)

Caps and Stripes

Preppy

This week felt like the right week to wear red, white and blue!

Niagara Stripes

L.L.Bean

On our last morning in Lewiston, NY, we decided to get up early and enjoy a nice quiet breakfast and take a walk along the waterfront.

Ruffled Under The Collar

To say it was hot this past weekend would be an understatement. According to my car's temperature gauge it was 92 degrees! I was awfully hot under the collar, or more accurately hot under the ruffles on my collar.

Wedding Season How To Be A Good Guest

wedding guest

This week I stopped by a local wedding venue in Kitchener that is known for it's delectable food, stunning Spanish style building and many, many photo ops, Hacienda Sarria. They kindly allowed me to take a few photos on their property and I thought this would make the perfect time to talk about the upcoming wedding season and how to be a good guest (there are more photos at the bottom!)

This Won't Be Going Back In My Closet

From that title you must be thinking something went terribly wrong...well kind of. I'm talking about this white skirt from Micheal Kors that looked so darn cute on the hanger but is the most uncomfortable thing to wear! The tiny white beads are held together with metal prongs and when you sit they dig into your skin. Also, if the wind blows the metal prongs get stuck to each other (which hikes your skirt up 😳) and they grab onto other articles of clothing, namely my favourite blue and create pulls in the knit.

So Long Summer

Happy Labour Day weekend! Wishing you a long weekend filled with family, sunsets and bonfires.

Blue Striped Tank

Outfit | Striped tank top: Banana Republic | Shorts: Lilly Pulitzer | Bag: Tory Burch | Scarf: Vintage | Earrings: Gold and pearl drops - a gift from my mom on my wedding day | Nail polish: Essie Blanc | Blush & Bronzer: Bobbi Brown | Mascara: Dior |

If you are following me on Snapchat (Celebr8thislife) you have seen this outfit a few times. I bought this blue striped tank top during a sale at my local Banana Republic earlier this summer. The tank was marked down to $25 from $95! I know, the shopping gods were on my side that day. I have worn the tank with white shorts, navy shorts as I did in the photos above, a pair of white capri pants and blue jeans. It really is a versatile little piece!

After cleaning out my master closet following a major disaster (I'll share more of that and our subsequent master closet reno in a future post) I found all my silk scarves in a box. Why do I store stuff to keep it save and never use it? Anyone else do this? I was inspired to put one of my favourite silk scarves to use after reading one of my new favourite blogs, Audrey A La Mode. She has a great post and You Tube video on tying your silk scarves 5 different ways. The wrist scarf is really, really easy. Fold into a triangle and then fold into a long rectangle, starting with the small point. Wrap around your wrist twice and tie in a simple double knot. All done and super chic!

Enjoy the long weekend everyone!

You can feel the cool evenings rolling in each night, late summer is here! I'm especially excited for fall this year because this summer has been so humid I don't think I can handle it anymore! I love being outside but this summer has kept me indoors with the A/C as much as possible.

One of my favourite colour combinations is blue and green, it's so fresh and preppy! You can switch in different accessories to suit the season and a brown belt, shoes and bag makes this outfit perfect for late summer dressing.

This week I had one of those days that just seemed to get busier and busier as the day wore on. Just before I left work The Youngest changed his piano lesson and that meant that instead of having a few hours between work and driving him I had to leave work early, eat a microwaveable frozen meal and hop back into the car! It's the life of a mom (I should point out The Oldest and AMH were in The 6ix for a Jays game) and I'm not complaining because both boys are in high school his year and that means we are only a few short years away from being empty-nesters! *This is where the husband and I secretly high five each other*

Since it was just me and The Youngest for the night, I planned a little after dinner picnic. Nothing fancy, just some gummy bears (his fave), a few peaches, a bag of Cape Cod chips, Tate's double chocolate chip cookies and some bottles of Cracker Barrel sweet tea. Like I said, nothing fancy but it was perfect for a 14 year old boy! And as always, it's a bribe to take my photos!

Since I was coming straight from the office I wore my work clothes but grabbed my new vintage jean jacket since the nights are starting to get cooler. It's the perfect late summer cover up and I just love the look of a pretty dress and jean jacket (it's the country girl in me!). My Levi's jacket, which I bought from White Tiger Vintage in Kitchener, is the women's boyfriend fit which I highly recommend. I tried on the women's regular fit and had to size up two full sizes and still felt like if I wore a sweater I wouldn't be able to bend my arms. The boyfriend fit is looser and longer, hitting the waist. It's still tapered for a feminine look and I just love it. It takes me back to being a teenager in the 90's when we all wore jean jackets! I think this is the only 90's look that I am ok with coming back, the rest can stay in the past! Thank goodness we didn't have social media back then!
